You Are Special

Posted on March 29, 2010 at 4:10 PM Comments comments (0)

I have decided to start a regular blog about all the Special People I've met.

Each week I'll be interviewing one or two persons and featuring them in my blog.

The interviews will be designed to show how interesting and wonderful so called 'ordinary' people are ... and what makes each of us truly special.

Please check back soon to meet them!

Making Love Out of Nothing At All

In my last blog I wrote that Dr. Seuss was a favorite author. Another favorite is Shakespeare.

One might think that because I love romance and Shakespeare that "Romeo & Juliet" would be a favorite love story of mine. It isn't.

Some might think this is blasphemy, but I don't think it a great love story at all. It is an "Obsession Story".

To me, the whole "I would rather die than live without you" thing is not about true love. That shows weakness. It implies neediness and a life that would otherwise be without a purpose. I don't think that makes a strong and healthy relationship. And a true love story should be about a love that is strong and healthy.

A true love makes a person strong. A true love does not make a person needy and dependent.

"Titanic" (and again some may consider this blasphemy) was never a favorite movie of mine. I am sorry, but I like for my love stories to have both characters alive at the end ... and go on living happily ever after.

However, what I DID like about "Titanic" was the message of true love. The love between Rose and Jack was a real love. Because it DID make them strong. Had that been Romeo and Juliet in the cold ocean that night, Juliet would have been weak and died right there with Romeo. Romeo would not have told Juliet to hold on and keep living.

Jack gave Rose a beautiful message about love. Rose LIVED for their love. She held on to what they had and BECAUSE of it she had a full life, a fulfilled life. Her life was filled with accomplishment and love.

Living for your lover, not killing yourself over you lover is a sign of TRUE LOVE.

Using the Brain

One of my favorite authors once said "I like nonesense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living." It was Dr. Seuss.

No wonder I like this writer so much.

Fantasy does awaken the mind. What comes from the imagination CAN become reality ... and it does. If we just look at a few things that exist today that were once thought to be magical or impossible we can see what imagination can do.

Flying was something that man used to only dream of.

Computers only existed in Sci-fi movies.

Travel to space was nonsense.

The more I see of the world the more I believe in the power of imagination. The more I believe in fantasy.

Another favorite quote of mine is by John Lennon. He once said "I believe in everything until it is disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it is all in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"

He's right you know. We shouldn't be so quick to think something does not exist simply because we have not seen it. Why would legends and myths persist from long ago until today if there was not some truth behind them?

Personally, I would hate to deny the existence of elves and fairies ... only to find out they are real. Angry pixies can be scary, I'd rather stay on their good side!
